I am one of millions of people who are waiting with baited breath for the return of my guilty pleasure—ABC’s hit TV show, Scandal. (For those of you who don’t know, Scandal is about a prominent Washington DC fixer, Olivia Pope, and her affair with the President of the United States, Fitzgerald Grant) I am also a relationship success coach and every day I work with women trying to find love and keep it.
My clients just want a happy, fulfilling relationship—it does not have to be with the most powerful man on earth (like Scandal’s President Fitzgerald Grant). And while I certainly advise AGAINST dating a married man … and it remains to be seen whether this fictional relationship will work … it turns out there’s a lot every woman can learn from watching what attracted Scandal’s Commander in Chief to Olivia Pope.
After 13 years of helping thousands of women find love, I know what works and what does not in relationships. Today I am going to share the three qualities that Mr. President can’t resist in Olivia and how you can apply them in your own life.
- Olivia is confident and does not need the President. You see, men feel a magnetic pull to women who already have “it” going on and don’t need them. And men are drawn to a good chase.So how do you implement this strategy? Well, you go work on yourself and your own life. Focus on making yourself the best and the happiest you can be. When you do that, you’ll find that you have never been sexier to the opposite sex. Then, don’t make yourself overly available. Let the man work to earn you. And don’t drop your life the moment you have him.
- Unlike the President’s wife, Olivia truly loves the President for the person he is, not just for his powerful position. Olivia supports the President every step of the way and gives him the respect he craves. By contrast, the President’s wife does not show him respect. She is power-hungry and undermines him with snide comments and demeaning remarks.Here’s the lesson: Men need to feel admired and respected … and they never seem to get enough! Respect a man and he will adore you forever!
- The world cow tows to the President, but Olivia tells the President what he needs to hear. So often when women get into a relationship, the first thing they do is bite their tongue. They try to morph into the woman they think the man wants them to be. But, here’s the secret. That’s not sexy. The President spends all day with people who tell him what he wants to hear. Olivia does not do that. From their very first meeting, she spoke her mind. And because of that, the President trusts her … and he needs her.So how can you implement this in your own relationship? Simple. Be yourself. Don’t try to change your views to make a man want you. The real you is going to come out one way or another. Speak your mind and if it is meant to be, it will be. If it’s meant to be, what you have to say will be exactly what your man needs to hear … and when he recognizes it, he will come to need you.
Again, being involved with a married man is never a good idea. And who knows what’s in store for this tumultuous fictional couple. On TV, anything can happen! But I know one thing for sure—these three principles of attraction really do work!
